Blogger Comments ... AARRGGHH!!!!!!
Ugh! A few months ago I switched from using Enetation comments to Blogger comments. Well ... Blogger comments are making me NUTS!! They don't appear until the next time I post. So ... for example, if you left a comment on my most recent post about the new London City Hall, neither YOU nor I will see the comment until AFTER I upload this post. UGH!! Is that dumb or what!? BLOGGER ... WHAT'S GOING ON!!!!???? I think I ought to try to change back to Enetation!!
London City Hall
Have you seen pictures of the new London City Hall? It was built in 2002. It is a really COOL building.
Isn't that cool? Anyway ... you can also read about the building and see more great pictures. You'll have a good time!!
More on the Blogosphere at large
So, I have spent some time talking with some folks who know a lot more about the world of blogs than I do. I have even gotten some advice about where to go to find good lists of blogs. So ... ignore my previous post about the guy with the post about locator chips and pets and kids and Americans in Iraq. Let's get on to something a bit more timely.
CNN.com has an entire section devoted to blog links, with the upcoming election in mind. There are links to CNN bloggers, there are links to conservative blogs and links to liberal blogs, as well as statistical analysis of blogs and their political activities. Rather interesting. I haven't had a chance to click through and spend much time reading from many of the blogs, but I plan to do that soon. Maybe even one of these days I'll figure out how to organize my blog main page like Pat's, with other links in the margins ... like books, DVD's, movies, and other blogs of note. Then I could have my own blogosphere within the blogosphere. LOL!!!
Other blogs...
Okay ... so, apparently, blogs are taking over the world. Or ... at least they're taking over the United States. Or, maybe it's just that they're taking over people's source of information for opinion forming or the upcoming elections. Or ... something like that. Aren't they saying that people are looking at blogs for information and news and everything else?
ANYWAY, I recently did a Google search for a recipe for Kimmelweck rolls (if you're not from Buffalo, don't even bother to ask) and the first link I came across was from the archives of some guy's blog. SOOOOooooo, being the curious type that I am, after printing out the recipe (mmmmm ... beef on weck!!), I went to the main link for his most recent blog entries. This is where it gets interesting. Here's the link for his most recent entry, October 17. Okay ... so, in my humble opinion, he's a bit out on a limb politically, but that's just my opinion. I think it's interesting reading ... about the current and increasing trend of implanting locator "chips" in animals ... just in case they get lost. (Doesn't that sound sort of on the path to being end-times-ish?) Well, if you read this guy's blog entry, he goes on to theorize about near-future possible uses for these chips. Interesting.
Well, in addition to commenting on all of the books that I've been reading lately or the movies I've been seeing lately, maybe I'll start looking for interesting (or weird) (or both!) blogs that I'm finding and share them with you. Sound good?
I'd love to hear your thoughts on this locator chip thing ... as well as this guy's theories. Whaddya think?
Ignore the reviews!!
This weekend, I saw a very funny movie that I liked a lot. Taxi came out a few weeks ago, and is basically all Queen Latifah. I really never knew I liked Queen Latifah as an actress until I saw her in the movie version of Chicago (which I absolutely LOVED). In fact, I went to see Taxi just to see her. And, besides being a very clean movie (not much cursing, no more than a couple of kissing scenes) and not real violent (except for the car crashing scenes about every two or three minutes), it was just a FUN movie. I think I didn't stop smiling for the entire hour and a half, except for when I was laughing. I didn't read the reviews until after I saw the movie. Ridiculous. There wasn't a positive one among them. Again ... ridiculous.
Previous Post Continued...
Now, if you haven't read the previous post (because I've been such a bad blogger!), scroll down right now and read THAT post before you read this one. It's imperative. :-)
So ... Thursday morning, amidst e-mailing back and forth with my friend about the Barry Manilow concert, I also e-mailed a different friend about possibly catching a movie this weekend. I will quote certain parts of certain e-mails that went back & forth that day between myself and friend #2.
I had already written to ask friend #2 about a movie this weekend, and heard back from her that she would be out of town this weekend. You need to read her reaction to finding out that I was going to the Barry Manilow concert:
- Part of my answer to her e-mail: "I have a few errands to run, and then I'm maybe going to the (are you ready for this:) Barry Manilow concert at the MCI center with Kristi (wanna come with?) It's a lot more $ than I would even want to pay for tickets to see my favorite Christian artist (Stephen Curtis Chapman), but Barry is quite a showman, so I'm sure it will be worth it. ANYWAY ... I'l be a bit tired tomorrow (the concert doesn't even start until 8:00), but it should be fun! I'll chat with you next week.
- Friend #2's answer: "As tempting as an expensive evening with Barry Manilow (insert gagging noise here) sounds, I will have to leave that inexplicable pleasure to you and Kristi:). Actually, sometimes Barry doesn't make my skin crawl...it's just most of the time;). I don't know why I don't like him...maybe I've seen too many episodes of Murphy Brown... [skipped another paragraph about unrelated topics] ... Enjoy Barry, in all his spikey haired big nosed glory;)...I'm kidding...sortof...he he he...Maaaaaaannnnndyyyyyyy!"
Yup - that's about the extent of most of my friends' and colleagues' reactions to my going to see Barry. When I came in this morning, one colleague started singing at me: "I remember all my life ... raining down as cold as ice....." And another, who HAD read my blog late last night just shook her head and said, "I saw your away message at about 7:00, and it said 'At the Copa ... Copacabana....' and I couldn't figure out what the heck you were talking about. Then I saw your blog this morning ... I can NOT believe you went to see Barry Manilow." Yup ... the target of much laughter from friends and colleagues.
I can't believe I did this....
You're not going to believe it, either!!! I went to see BARRY MANILOW in concert ... here in DC at the MCI Center (well, they've got to use it for something since the hockey teams aren't playing!!) And ... I have to admit that I had a GREAT time ... I also have to admit that I knew most of the words to all but about 2 or 3 songs. Okay ... I'm not at all a fan ... but went with a friend who is a BIG fan, and really ... it was fun. Weird and geeky ... but fun!
"At the Copa ... Copacabana ... the hottest spot north of Havana ... here at the Copa ... Copacabana!! Music and passion were always the fashion at the Copa ..................."
I can now do IMAGES!! :-)
Thanks to Kate, I have finally learned how to put an image in my blog. Here's one for ya':
How's it look? By the way ... it's NOT my car!! :-) Just a friend who was letting me play/pretend to drive her Z3.
And, by the way, as I'm typing this, Kate is very highly concerned that I'm typing more stuff than she was expecting, so she thinks I might be typing about her. Seems to me to be sort of like the song, "You're so vain." You probably think this blog is about you!!! (La la la la la la la la.)
