July 9 - Mississippi
River (The Great River Road) through Iowa, Wisconsin, and Minnesota
The Great River Road runs right
along the Mississippi River through several states. It's a beautiful
drive along the Mighty Mississippi. Pepin, WI is the birthplace of
Laura Ingalls Wilder, author of the Little House series of books.
I went to the site where she was born, where they've built a reconstruction
of the "Little House in the Big Woods". [Note - the film got off
center in the camera, and although the prints from this roll have come
out fine, the CD has some half pictures.]

The first four
pictures were taken at an overlook along the Iowa portion of the Great
River Road.

Of course, I needed a picture of the sign marking the Great River Road through Iowa. :-) (This particular picture was taken in McGregor, IA.) |

The next several
pictures were taken at Pike's Peak State Park, named after the same man
who is famous for "his" mountain in Colorado.

| In the picture directly above, you can see the mouth of the Wisconsin River where it empties into the Mississippi directly in the middle of the picture. | |

Pepin, WI is
a very small, very cute little town that sits along the Mississippi at
a place where the River is so wide, it is actually called "Lake Pepin".

This is a picture taken from a spot near the Mississippi where I stopped for a sandwhich (at a cheese store recommended to me by my cousins). I thought it was pretty! |
