The Oregon Coast Aquarium
While meandering down the Oregon
coast, I stopped at the Oregon Coast Aquarium. I had read much about
this aquarium, which was supposed to be fabulous. Now, I'm not an
aquarium person. I don't really like the idea of wandering a large
museum full of live fish. But ... this aquarium is truly fabulous.
I could have spent all day there.

This is where it all began ... the entrance to the Oregon Coast Aquarium. The signs advertised the Great White Mystery, which was a series of displays about different types of sharks. The displays were very kid-friendly, and walked them through solving a "mystery" ... "What happened to surfer Bob?" It was rather cool for adults, too. |

These glass jelly
fish cost several hundred dollars each.

The two pictures above and the picture to the left don't do justice to the displays that the Aquarium had. It was more than just a bunch of rectangular tanks in the walls. The tanks were all different shapes and sizes, some recessed, some protruding from the walls, and some were floor to ceiling cylindars. They were all amazingly clean and absolutely fascinating. These pictures are from the first building's indoor exhibits. |

After you walked
through the first building, you move outside and through several outdoor
displays, one of which was an aviary. Again, remember that I'm not
really an aviary or aquarium person. But this aviary was great!
You could just stand around and watch puffins (which were not too many
feet away) swim!

So, maybe this is the criminal. Let's ask him if he knows anything about Surfer Bob. :-) |
| The two pictures below show my favorite part of the aquarium. There were three tanks which consisted of HUGE fish tanks, through which there was a tubular walkway. The fish swam above, below, and to either side of you. It was one of the coolest things I've ever seen!! | |

And, finally, one of the last tanks had a HUGE octopus. (Well, maybe it wasn't huge, but to this city girl, it was something out of a terror movie!) |
