July 22 - Pacific Coast in Oregon

All of my life, I have wanted to drive the Pacific Coast.  I first hit the route 101 portion of the Washington coast (near the Oregon border) on July 21, and thoroughly enjoyed my drive for the next ten days.  There are a few things that I will change the next time I do that trip, but be assured ... I will do that trip again!!

The Oregon Coast was one of the best highlights of the trip.  It basically consists of miles upon miles of breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean.  I can't say anything more ... the pictures ought to speak for themselves.

I saw the Oregon Coast Aquarium on July 22 as well.  As I was rather impressed with the Aquarium, I took LOTS of pictures, and I'll put them on a separate page.

And this (to the right) is my first sight of a 101 sign ... the water is just over to my right (you can't see it.)

Below are several pictures from Sunday morning, July 22, taken at "waysides" along 101, looking over the Pacific Ocean.

Make sure that you notice the difference in the state of the skies from the first three pictures to the ones following ... I stopped to go to church, and the fog lifted.  This, again, represents my ignorance of all things "Western" because I did not plan for the morning fog ALL THE WAY down the coast ... I just kept thinking that it was a bad weather thing that would go away by tomorrow.  I didn't realize that it's like this all the time in the summer ... foggy in the morning, clearing around noon or so.  It doesn't pay to be a morning person on the west coast in the summer!  :-)

The large rock formations standing out of the beaches and off the shore are called "sea stacks".  (Okay ... you may be saying, "Duh, Lou Ann" ... but I didn't know that before I started researching for this trip!)  :-D
This little guy strayed from his many friends while I was at one of the waysides.  He absolutely refused to allow me to get closer to take a better picture.  :-)  This is certainly my justification for purchasing a new, better camera with a telephoto lens one of these days real soon!
