July 14 - Yellowstone
National Park (Day Two) and Grand Teton National Park
I spent the first part of the
day seeing what I didn't get to see the day before at Yellowstone.
Then, I went through the Grand Teton National Park. It
was all beautiful!

The first two
pictures are of Yellowstone Lake, taken early in the
morning. The one directly below (left) is one of my favorite pictures
from the whole summer. :-)

The next three pictures (the
one to the right and the two directly beneath) are from a "mud volcano"
called "Dragon's Mouth". I have also heard it called "Belching Dragon",
which is a very good description of the sounds that come from the aperture.
The sounds are made by the water and hot steam rising up within the cave
at high speeds. You'll need to excuse the shadows of the photographer
... the angle of the sun was "wrong". :-)
The actual hole that you see directly below (right) is behind the wooden walkway where you see the steam rising in the picture below left. |

Before
I left for my trip this summer, a relative told me that I HAD to go to
the Falls area at Yellowstone to see WHY it's called "Yellow"stone.
I don't think that the pictures truly capture the color of the rock walls
of the canyon. They're beautiful. The following set of seven
pictures show various views of the Yellowstone Falls (upper and lower).

And ... the final
several Yellowstone pictures are random shots taken as I was making my
way out of the park.

To the left ... I just wanted to share with you a picture of a sign that amused me ... I believe that I found it at a visitors center. :-D Below ... two pictures of the sign's fulfillment. (Look closely ... you can see the bison crossing the river. I didn't want to get too close!) |
