August 6 - Route 50 in Nevada ... the Loneliest Road in America

Yes, I drove the Loneliest Road in America.  It wasn't that bad.  It didn't take more than about six or seven hours, it wasn't all that hot, and there several towns to break the monotony.  Now I can say that I've done it!  (And, for those of you reading this in the DC area, YES ... this is the same Route 50 that is Arlington Boulevard and Constitution Ave and so on.  The road actually goes from Ocean City, MD to California ... somewhere near Sacramento.)

(By the way ... the first few pictures were taken on August 4,5,6 at my aunt and uncle's house just outside of Carson City.)

First of all, to the right, my favorite view ... from the lanai behind my aunt and uncle's house.

Then, directly below, two pictures of the back of their house.

Then, the next three pictures are of a sunset ... August 5, 2001.

The following three pictures are of a sunrise ... August 6, 2001.

I did a LOT of driving that day ... the Lonliest Road in America is pretty lonely.  I also drove most of the way across Utah that day.  Well, I don't remember where the pictures shift from being pictures of 50 East in Nevada to pictures of Utah.  All I can tell you is that the landscape was fascinating, and pretty much devoid of signs of human life.
