Gas Prices!!!

Okay, everyone knows it's ridiculous!! I don't even know why I'm blogging about this. But it's just so RIDICULOUS!!

The gas prices went up around the hurricane Katrina event. We all know that. But they never went down, even when we all knew that the hurricane did not permanently or significantly effect oil production in the Gulf of Mexico. Yes, I know that there's a war, but that's been for several years now. Did OPEC hijack Katrina?

I spent quite a bit of time driving this past week. I drove to Buffalo. I drove home from Buffalo, picking up my beautiful 4-year-old nephew on the way. Then a few days later I drove my nephew back to somewhere in Pennsylvania to meet up with his mother who would drive him the rest of the way home. Then I drove to Norfolk for the weekend and drove back. Lots of driving.

So. Around June 30 (just before the July 4 weekend), the gas prices at the station in my parking lot (just off of I-95) went from about $3.01 to $3.11. I thought for SURE that they'd be back down after the weekend. I thought that they raised the price so that drivers on July 4 weekend road trips would have to pay. Well, I was wrong. Today is July 17, and the price is still $3.11. RRRRrrrrr....

The gas prices in New York (mom's in Buffalo, brother is in Elmira) are always (ALWAYS) higher than the prices around here (Lorton, VA). New York State adds all sorts of miscellaneous taxes to EVERYTHING, and I've always attributed the elevated gas prices to those taxes. BUT - when I was in New York this week, their gas prices were LOWER than they are here right now. RRRRrrrrrr....

Then, I drove to Norfolk. I knew that the gas prices in Fredricksburg (about 30 miles south of here) would be lower, so I waited to fill up until I got there. The price of gas at the Wawa station in Central Park in Fredricksburg this weekend was $2.72. That is almost FORTY cents less than here in Lorton. HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE!!?? FORTY CENTS!!!!!!!

I find this to be ridiculous!! RRRRrrrrrr....
